Software development for UK startups

Startups

What Codexlava builds for startups

Codexlava builds MVPs, web applications and React Native mobile apps for UK startups. The aim of a first build is to answer one question - will people use and pay for this - as cheaply as possible, on code that a second version can build on rather than replace.

What is different

Things we plan around

What shapes a startups build before any code is written.

  1. Scope is the budget

Most early overspend comes from building version three before version one has been tested. We scope to the question you need answered, and say when a clickable prototype would answer it for less.

  2. You own everything

The code, the accounts and the infrastructure are yours from the first day, in your own repositories and cloud accounts - which is also what an investor's technical due diligence will ask about.

  3. Built to be handed over

Documented, tested and deployed through a pipeline, so a first in-house developer can take it over without a rewrite.

  4. Fixed price where the scope is clear

A well-defined MVP suits a fixed project price; exploratory work suits a rate. We say which fits rather than padding an estimate.

Do you work with pre-revenue startups?
Yes. Many first builds happen before revenue. What matters is a clear question the first version has to answer - who it is for and what they must be able to do - not how far along the company is.
Should a startup build an MVP or a prototype first?
If the open question is whether people want it or understand it, a clickable prototype usually answers that for a fraction of the cost. If the question is whether they will use it and pay for it, you need an MVP that works. We will say which one fits on the first call.
Who owns the code Codexlava writes for a startup?
You do. The code lives in your own repository and the product runs in your own cloud and app store accounts, so nothing has to be transferred when you raise money, hire a developer or change supplier.
How much does an MVP cost in the UK?
Across the UK market in 2026, published agency guides put most MVPs between £15,000 and £80,000, depending on what it must do at launch, what it connects to and whether it is web or mobile. Codexlava scopes each build individually, and the first consultation is free.
Can you take over an MVP another developer started?
Often, yes. We start by reviewing the code, the hosting and the tests, then tell you plainly what we would keep, what we would change and what it would cost to continue.

Tell us what you are building

One call, no obligation. We will tell you what the work involves, roughly what it costs, and whether we are the right people to do it.
